HP adds Haswell to new EliteBook laptops

HP has made the EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 thinner, but retained serviceability for in-house repairs
Hewlett-Packard has added Intel's Haswell processors to a pair of new EliteBook business laptops, while making them slimmer.

HP on Tuesday announced the EliteBook Folio 1040 G1, which has a 14-inch screen and is one of company's thinnest ultrabooks, HP said. The company also announced the EliteBook revolve G2 laptop, which has a convertible design based on a swiveling screen.

The EliteBook Folio G1 is 15.9 millimeters thick, making it around 16 percent thinner than its predecessor, the EliteBook Folio 9470M, said Aaron Slessinger, notebook category manager at HP. The laptop is also 7.3 percent lighter than its predecessor(Compaq Presario CQ40).

The addition of Intel's fourth-generation Core processors, code-named Haswell, adds longer battery life and better graphics to the laptop, Slessinger said. HP has measured battery life at around 10 hours.Due to the thin size, many ultrabooks are sealed and difficult to service. But the EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 allows some repairs and battery replacements to be done in-house, Slessinger said. That is important for businesses that don't want to send laptops back for repairs.

The laptop can be connected to a display through a displayport port, and supports the dock used for the 9470M ultrabook. The EliteBook Folio 1040 is priced starting at US$1,299 and by default will have a 720p screen, though options for full high definition and touch screens are also available.HP also bought Haswell processors to its new EliteBook revolve G2 laptop, which has a convertible design with a swiveling screen that can be placed on the keyboard. The laptop offers 10 hours of battery life, which is an improvement over 8.25 hours of battery offered by its predecessor, introduced in December last year. The Revolve G2 will start at $1,364(Apple A1175).

There's still a demand for convertible laptops, as some users want their screen attached to the base, Slessinger said. There are other HP products available with detachable screens, Slessinger said.
"We're still learning about convertibles, detachables and where they are going to go," Slessinger said.
The EliteBook laptops will have optional 4G LTE. Release dates and availability information for the laptops were not provided by HP(Dell Inspiron 9200).

HP also introduced a Classmate Notebook laptop with Windows 8.1 for the education market. The rugged laptop, which will run on Intel's Celeron N2000 processor, will only be sold in channels directly to educational institutions. The laptop's price was not provided by HP.

Classmate laptop has Intel's education suite of learning software and collaboration tools. It's made of heavy plastic that will allow the laptop to take some bangs and bumps. The classmate is an attempt by HP to diversity its offerings, Slessinger said. HP also offers Chromebooks for the educational market(Dell Studio 1535).

Dell Inspiron 9400 Review

The design of the Inspiron 9400 is almost exactly the same as the 9200 and 9300, so the chassis is starting to look a bit dated. It's a sturdy desktop replacement, but compared with the styling of the Inspiron XPS, it's a bit naff.

Due to the high-end desktop replacement products, Inspiron 9400 body shells are all made of aluminum-magnesium alloy, strength and heat dissipation are very good. Its exterior design is also a serious change from Dell laptop traditional style dark lines, with a silver and white trim with the main body design, looks more than a little fashion sense. However, silver and white itself does not match, causing some superfluous white plastic trim it explicit(HP Business Notebook 6720t).

The 9400 is a world ahead of the 9300 as far as specifications are concerned, though. Gone is the Pentium M processor, replaced by the dual-core T2500 chip, seriously increasing the 9400's power and helping it to a WorldBench 5 score of 94. We've seen quicker overall results, but in our multitasking tests the Dell was second to none.

Operating system

Another difference between the 9400 and its predecessors is the choice of operating system - XP Home has been replaced by XP Media Center 2005 Edition, indicating a greater emphasis on making the 9400 an all-round entertainment centre. The screen is good, giving a sharp, colourful image, but we'd have liked to see a higher resolution than 1,440x900(IBM ThinkPad X60).

In terms of graphics, the 9400 really falls down - that onboard Intel processor simply isn't up to the standard established by ATI and nVidia. The frame rates we got in our Doom3 and Halo tests weren't very good at all. Believe us when we say that this laptop isn't for gaming. We suspect that a better graphics chip would have boosted the Inspiron's WorldBench 5 result.

Noise, heat and battery life

Dell Inspiron 9400 is equipped with two cooling fans, one for the CPU, one for the video card GPU. Two fans will automatically adjust speed according to the temperature of the chip, so the system is running idle almost hear the fan noise. When playing games with GPU and CPU heat is high, this time to reach the maximum fan speed, noise can be heard clearly. Therefore recommend using headphones when playing games. Because of the strong force is equipped with NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS graphics cards. So the bottom and right position when asked to play the game there is a significant body heat phenomenon, but still tolerable range(Acer Aspire 5320).

Dell Inspiron 9400 is equipped with high-capacity 9-cell lithium-ion battery, which is very rare in the 17-inch screen notebook. When fully charged, the screen brightness set to maximum, turn on Wi-Fi wireless capabilities, the execution of daily tasks, you can continue to run for about 2 hours and 15 minutes. If the screen brightness set to minimum, turn off Wi-Fi wireless capabilities, to perform the same task, you can continue to run for about 3 hours. This has been achieved for a desktop replacement notebook has been very good(HP Mini 110-3018cl).

Conclusion:The Dell Inspiron 9400 is equipped with the latest Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 processor, is currently the most high-end processor for laptops. Is second only to the 7900 GTX Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS, coupled with high capacity 2GB DDR2 memory, fully meet the requirements of most of the game, for the latest Windows Vista operating system can cope? And most importantly, the price is not too expensive, Japanese books the same configuration may be more than 20,000 yuan.

ASUS U46SV contents with the likes of the Macbook Air in some-ways, both this ASUS and the Macbook Air are portable notebooks. However, the Air is considerably thinner and lighter than the ASUS, and even though the Air doesn't come with a 14-inch display (only 11-inch and 13-inch) the 13-inch Air does come with a higher resolution display at 1440-by-800 pixels than the ASUS(DELL Latitude D620).

The ASUS U46SV is at a disadvantage size wise but with that size the laptop is allowed to have a discrete graphics and full-voltage processors. But the performance advantages are a double-edged sword for the ASUS because the laptops included 4 or 8-cell batteries will be more often than not die quicker than a Macbook air(HP Pavilion dv9000).

According to reports from tcmagazine, the ASUS U46SV in Europe will set you back either 9 oror depending on whether you want 4GB or 6GB of DDR3 RAM.

The laptop assessment of HP Envy 14 Spectre

The first impression is important, first impressions HP Envy 14 Spectre gives bad. Covered with glass glossy display frame and keyboard tray gives a feeling of elegant and understated, the bony base of the laptop gives a stylish look. However, the second impression is slightly inferior point: Pick up the spectre. The weight seems to be a little heavier than you think. That is because the HP uses a crash of glass, similar to the kind of glass used on high-end phones. The stunning glass cover is also very easy to leave fingerprints.

LCD panel offers excellent horizontal viewing angle and a good vertical viewing angle down from the top of the laptop. However, if you are not the best location, the color and contrast drift seriously. Screen brightness is very uniform, which may be attributed to LED backlight technology. Excellent color saturation, video looks pretty good, especially HD video. Compared with the use of the more conventional 1366 68 pixel display products, while HP's 11600 0 pixel screen editing photos usually have a little coconvenience.nd Hewlett-Packard offers Photoshop elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 official versions, you can take full advantage of its display(HP Pavilion dv4)

On the other hand, the performance was a bit disappointing, and compared to similar products, a little behind, such as the Dell XPS 13. Spectre score in WorldBench 7 areas is 106, compared with four similar Ultrabook ranked second to last. But the overall performance was okay. In addition, Envy 14 Internet performance tests score point lower. Higher-resolution display may have some impact on performance, but such a high number of pixels to make up the deficiency score slightly lower. Battery life is comparable average, up to 6 hours and 29 minutes(Compaq Presario CQ40 Battery).

Audio side mixed. When moderate volume, HP's beats audio system capable of rendering richer than most laptop speakers music and movies; however, if the volume is turned up (more than about 60), you can feel the obvious speaker distortion. If you want more volume, you need to use headphones. Spectre on the right provides an easy to use analog volume dial(HP Business Notebook 6720t battery).

Like with most Ultrabook, Envy 14 Spectre also utilizes Intel's HD 3000 graphics chip technologies, so it is very suitable for playing some small PC games at lower resolution and detail level settings. The keyboard feels quite pleasant, but the space bar is slightly concave, which leads to you not fully press the space bar to play out content huddled together. Touched we've seen on a Windows laptop best, feel and ease of approaching a larger trackpad Apple MacBook Air utilized. Full support for multi-touch gestures, proper button sensitivity, and by clicking on any place, you can right- click the mouse, these features are very popular(HP Mini 110-3018cl Battery).

You need to put some ointment on Spectre place: Compared with most of the pole, it was a little heavier, a trivial lower performance, but also provides a much better display, great keyboard and excellent pointing device. It's inexpensive, basic models priced at about $ 1,299 (as of March 29, ), so you should take this into account. Finally, the HP Envy 14 spectre is far from a classic, but it did not disappoint.

Recycle Laptop Batteries

Why Recycle Laptop Batteries
Because of the large amounts of batteries being used today with computers and other electronics, it is important that you dispose the batteries not only properly but safely to help the environment and other beings. In addition, there are now over 500 recycling laws in the United States and not disposing of the batteries appropriately may cost you or your company. Each year, over three billion dry cell batteries are sold throughout the United States. What happens to each one of those batteries when they run out of juice? Well, that’s something that each of us needs to work on. While the recycling of laptop batteries is becoming more and more common by the day, we still have a long way to go. Here we’ve answered three very important questions that exist when it comes to the recycling of batteries(HP Pavilion dv4 battery).

Why do I need to recycle old laptop batteries?

According to Adria Vasil’s book Ecoholic- 50% to 70% of heavy metals found in landfills come from our everyday batteries. That’s 50% to 70%! Because batteries disposed of in municipal landfills and trash incinerators can disperse significant amounts of heavy metals and other toxic substances into the air and water, battery waste prevention and recycling strategies are essential.

Laptop batteries make up a significant part of that 50% to 70% of heavy metals in landfills. And while most manufacturers are taking great steps in producing new types of eco-friendly batteries, it’s important to remember that laptop batteries and computer batteries should never, ever be thrown in the trash(Compaq Presario CQ40 Battery).

How should I recycle my laptop batteries?

It’s safe to say that most people are beginning to recognize how important it is to recycle laptop batteries and keep them out of our landfills. The easy part about all of this is that you really don’t have too much when it’s time to discard a used up laptop battery. In fact, all you have to do is contact your local recycling facility for more information on how to dispose of your used computer batteries properly(Apple A1185 Battery).

Where should I recycle my laptop batteries?

As we mentioned in the previous section, you can contact your local recycling facility for more information on how and where to go about recycling your old laptop batteries. If you’re not sure just who or where your *local recycling facility is, you can try using the tools put together by Earth911.com or Call2Recycle US. These will show you where the nearest recycling center is, and they can help you from there. You also have the option of sending old laptop batteries directly to Atbatt if you would like. Take a look at the Battery Disposal Guide for more information on how to go about doing so. Or visit our Battery Recycling page for more information(Dell Latitude D820 Battery).

Awareness surrounding the importance of recycling old laptop and computer batteries is definitely on the rise. In the last 15 years, Call2Recyle alone has collected over 50 million pounds of batteries overall. There’s still a lot of work to be done however, and it’s on each person to make sure their old batteries are properly discarded.

Tips for avoiding laptop batteries from getting too hot

Many people use their laptops largely as desktop replacements, using them on the desk and leaving them plugged in most of the time. These people would do well not what their laptop batteries charge constantly. Although there’s no danger of “overcharging” lithium-ion batteries, leaving a laptop plugged in for months at a time will have a detrimental effect on its battery. If you use your laptop as a desktop replacement, try unplugging it when it’s not in use. Take care to unplug the charger from the wall, too, as otherwise it consumes electricity. Better yet, leave the laptop plugged in all the time, but remove its battery. For long-term storage, lithium-ion batteries should be allowed to run down to little below half charge. Store them safely in a warm, dry location. Many people believe that low temperatures are harmful for batteries. The truth about Li-ion batteries is that high temperatures are their worst enemy. Therefore, the following tips will help avoid laptop batteries from getting too warm.

1. Always use a laptop on a hard surface.Don’t put it on your lap or on thermal insulating materials such as cushion (DELL Latitude D620 battery).

2. Try to avoid charging the battery while you are working with the laptop. Overheating is the most common problem of laptop battery. Charging the batteries increases your laptop’s temperature. The problem is that the CPU, the graphics card and the hard disk also heat up your laptop, which adds to the temperature increase experienced when charging the battery. While the laptop is using the AC adapter for power the battery acts as a back up in case of a loss of power or accidental unplugging. During this AC power use the battery becomes hotter than it would if being used independently. To lessen the chances of this overheating, which leads to a shorter life expectancy of the battery, keep the AC power adapter plugged in only if you need to charge the battery while using the device. Many vendors deliver their laptops with software that allows you to disable charging. You also can remove the battery while you are working on AC current(Acer Aspire 5320 battery).

3. Make sure the laptop’s ventilation can always work properly. Don’t place objects before the ventilation systems opening. Don’t run or charge the laptop while it is in its case (Apple A1185 Battery).

4. Don’t leave the laptop in the car or under the sun in summer. Use a bike. It keeps your laptop battery cool and your own battery healthy. And too much sun exposure causes only skin cancer anyway (Dell Latitude D820 Battery).

Let the battery warm up a little before you put it back into your laptop. If the temperature is raised too fast, it will strain the battery.

When I started this article, I thought I’d just share a few tips I’ve found on the web. But then I realized that there are quite a few things that can be done wrong with laptop batteries. That’s how I ended up with three articles. It is quite amazing that we can build space ships that have enough energy to fly to the moon but still have no decent portable energy sources for simple laptops. Perhaps fuel cells will change the picture in a few years.
